What is the difference between "Replication" and "Duplication"?

Replication is a manufacturing process using a glass master (pressing), where the data is physically pressed into the polycarbonate during the manufacturing of the disc. Typically this is used for large quantities, it is longer to produce.

Duplication is done by burning given data onto a blank disc using a CD / DVD. This is typically used for small quantities, because it is faster to produce (1-3 days).

When choosing between replication and duplication, consider: the quantity required, the costs and production time.

Type of printing:

Replication / Offset

Printing on the CD’s, DVD’s using offset is ideal for photographs, and rasterized images. This type of printing produces very bright and precise colors. CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black. (Process color)

The white background is considered a color and is compulsory.

Replication / Silk Screen

Printing on the CD’s, DVD’s, CD-R’s, DVD-R’s using "Silk Screen" is ideal for layout graphics with flat area and using the Pantone Color Chart PMS Solid Color. You can use from 1 to 6 Pantone colors.
The white background is considered a color, can also be used for black and white printing such as grayscale.

Duplication / Thermography

Printing on the CD-R’s, DVD-R’s using "Thermography" Colors on silver, colors on white background, black on silver, black on white or white on silver.

CD

They come in: DVD-5 single layer, single sided: about 4.7 GB, DVD DL double layer, single sided: about 8.54 GB, DVD single layer, double sided: about 8.54 GB and DVD dual layer, double sided about 17.08 GB

Blu-ray disc

The Blu-ray Video is universally recognized for its outstanding performance in video and audio.

It’s basic, single layer, capacity is 25GB and the dual layer option offers 50 GB of storage space.

Mini-CD

The Mini-CD has a diameter of 3 inches, can store 210MB of digital information – which is equates to roughly 24 minutes of audio.

Mini-CDs are predominantly used as a promotional tool to distribute sample tracks or other information.

CD Business Card

Displays the same information as a conventional business card but is presented in digital form. This form of media is best used to store promotions, advertisements, resumes, miscellaneous etc...
